Our community of volunteer trail builders

Heart, arms, and a contagious passion

Behind several trails that thrill you at the Sentiers du Moulin, there are passionate volunteers. Armed with shovels, rogues and unwavering determination, they give their time, energy and expertise to build, maintain and evolve the playground we all love.

At SDM, we are fortunate to rely on two exceptional volunteer trailbuilding groups:

DigSDM
LB-Cycle

Complementary and deeply committed, these two groups are behind several of the network’s most iconic trails. Together, they contribute thousands of volunteer hours each year and, above all, embody the spirit of the SDM community.

DigSDM – Builders rooted in SDM’s history

DigSDM is a core group of passionate volunteers who have contributed to the evolution of Sentiers du Moulin for over 15 years.

Officially structured in 2017, the group carries on the legacy of a collective active since 2006, when the first SDM singletracks were created by a handful of pioneers.

Initially focused on maintaining a rapidly growing network, DigSDM now plays a key role in developing ambitious new lines and ensuring the long-term maintenance of existing trails. Most projects are carried out in close collaboration with the SDM trail crew and, when needed, with specialized external partners.

Major projects at SDM
2012 – Vieille Léon
2015 to 2017 – Léon, Viking, Basse SuperG
2019 – QMG in partnership with Qc.MTB.girls
2021 – Passerelle
2023 – Mammouth
2024 – Saga
2025-2026 – Project 24 24

An essential team
DigSDM combines modern trailbuilding expertise with an in-depth knowledge of the terrain. A discreet but essential pillar of the network’s vitality.

LB-Cycle – An army of dedicated diggers since 2014

Founded in 2014, LB-Cycle is a non-profit organization based in Lac-Beauport that plays a major role in developing SDM’s enduro offering.

Its mission is built around three clear objectives:

  • Develop and maintain trails
  • Mobilize the MTB community
  • Share trailbuilding knowledge with other groups

With a strong community-driven approach and an impressive mobilization capacity, LB-Cycle is behind several flagship trails within the network. Projects are generally led autonomously, in collaboration with the SDM trail crew, and sometimes supported by specialized contractors depending on the scope of work.

Two of their trails even inspired exclusive beers brewed with Le Roquemont: Wolverine and Professeur X.

An inspiring collective force
LB-Cycle is a tight-knit community driven by a strong sense of belonging and a clear commitment to passing on trailbuilding knowledge.

Club Mathieu Performance – Guardians of the XC trails

Since 2008, Club Mathieu Performance has contributed to the maintenance of SDM’s XC trails. Each year, between 200 and 400 volunteer hours are dedicated to keeping these trails accessible and safe.

A discreet but essential contribution to the proper functioning of the network.

Projects primarily led by individual volunteer builders

Some projects were primarily led by a single volunteer builder, with occasional support from volunteer groups and the SDM trail crew.

2022 – Bouc – Benoit Bouchard
2023-2024 – Farfadet – Benoit Bouchard

More Than Moving Dirt: A Culture

Our trailbuilders do more than build trails. They pass on a culture, strengthen a community and create a lasting connection between the forest, the sport and the people. Thanks to them, SDM continues to evolve while remaining true to its values: quality, authenticity and passion.

How to Support Our Trailbuilders

There are several simple and concrete ways to support our volunteers:

  • Take part in a trail work day
  • Make a donation to LB-Cycle
  • Follow them on social media
  • Subscribe to Dig IT to stay informed about upcoming trail work days
  • Purchase your trail pass

Respect the trails they build

Dig IT – A Platform Born in the Dirt

Since 2023, SDM has been using Dig IT, a trail work management platform designed specifically for trailbuilding communities.

Tested in the field by DigSDM and LB-Cycle, it allows volunteers to:

  • Easily register for trail work days
  • Receive important information
  • Track their volunteer hours

An essential tool that helps structure operations, mobilize the community effectively and recognize each volunteer’s contribution.
